So the two most consistent teams meet again in the league final. No ulster representatives illustrates wheres ulster football lies at the minute. Kerry's dominace in Killarney last weekend over Tyrone highlighted Dublin will not have this match their own way. While Tyrone will be licking their wounds from another beating from Kerry they will be watching this final thinking they still have a golden chance in a few months time to make amends. Kerry will feel they owe Dublin one from their previous encounter. Kerry should have beat them and so too Tyrone but it shows you the quality of a team when they can still remain unbeaten under serious pressure. I felt watching Dublin this year that they are more vunerable this year than any other but what team can fully expose this. To beat the Dubs you must be clinical and economical with each chance and remain strong and resolute at the back trying not to concede a goal..impossible task? I dont think so. To stop their half backs from penetrating up the pitch the Kerry half forwards must push further up the pitch and not drop into a deep position. Gaelic football is all about the efficiency of the counter attacks. Do Kerry have the forwards to rack up a higher score than Dublin playing offensively I think not so Kerry will approach this more defensively than Dublin. If Kerry are to succeed they must stop the runners from deep and not allow Dublin time on the ball. Bernard Brogran is back looking sharp and he will be sniffing around them Kerry goals for another onion. Kerry have their own sharp shooters and they will look to James o'Donoghue to lead the way. The midfield battle will be an interesting one. The kerry midfielders are playing well with David Moran and Anthony Maher taking scores to date with ease but will they be as attackingly minded against the Dubs this time out? Looking at kickout strategies Dublin will not want to kick long as Kerry have the better fielders so once again they will deploy Cluxton to use his radar vision to find his men. The key to beating Dublins short kickouts is pushing up man on man and constantly applying pressure forcing Cluxton to either kick it long or over the sideline. Kerry will opt for the short kickouts as well especially if Dublin play the sweeper but they know they cant take many risks at the back with the pool of Dublin sharks awaiting.
An intriguing game to watch this one will go right to the wire wouldn't rule out a draw but I feel the Dubs will nip it by 2.
In the other league finals Westmeath should dispose of wexford by at least 3 points whilst I feel Tipperary have the advantage against Louth after their buoyant win over Armagh. Kildare against Galway has the making of a cracking curtain raiser and I expect a high scoring and flowing game of football. Kildare have found it hard to get over the line in the past will this game be any different? Kildare's experience in croker should see them nip it in a close encounter. Plenty of football in headquarters over the weekend enjoy the football and the sunshine!
